Enabling Joy Over the Holidays

Table of Contents

What an incredible year it’s been! And not just when it comes to company momentum. We have been expanding our community involvement, to give back even more to the community that’s given so much to us. In the spirit of the holidays this year, we at Highspot held our first-ever clothing drive.

By way of background, earlier this year we established several fun committees to create further cross-functional alignment outside of our day-to-day activities. One of these is our Volunteer Crew, which sets up quarterly volunteer projects. In the past year, we’ve done events such as creating food packages and building a community garden. Highspot is actively working to establish a consistent voice in charity contributions and to scale our community involvement.

With such a large sales team, we decided to make this clothing drive a friendly competition, with the intent of collecting as many clothes as possible to give back to our hometown, Seattle.

Our clothing drive competition ran over the course of 2 weeks, and everyone was encouraged to bring in any gently used or new clothes and shoes of all sizes. We separated the company into 4 teams, and the winning team, “Team Snowman,” donated a total of 121 pounds of clothing. We were able to collect a grand total of 290 POUNDS of clothes and shoes. The items collected included men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing and shoes, and more than 1,000 items were donated.

This year, we decided to donate all items to the Assistance League of Seattle. Located in Wallingford, the Assistance League of Seattle was founded in 1962. When donations are given to the organisation, volunteers sort through the donations to find items they can re-sell and then bring back to life in their thrift store. One-third of the organisation’s income comes from their thrift store, and 86 cents on the dollar goes back to buying brand-new clothing for children. A huge reason we decided to give to the Assistance League is because of their Operation School Bell program. The program provides more than 2,100 children with the clothes and items they need, “empowering young students to reach their full potential by focusing on school, not their need for basic clothing.” Everything the the Assistance League isn’t able to sell in their thrift store is given to local homeless shelters, providing their local neighbourhood with an abundance of clothes and shoes.

We at Highspot were so happy to donate to such a wonderful cause. We definitely plan to hold another clothing competition like this next year, hopefully receiving double the amount of clothes!

Want to participate in this kind of do-good fun? Visit the Assistance League of Seattle website for more information on how to get involved or donate to their cause.
